Recessed Door Switch System For Joinery Lighting

The LD1401 reed switch and magnet kit is based on the same design as the LD1400 but includes an 11 mm flange at one end. The flange provides a clean, finished look by covering the mounting hole when the switch is inserted into the carcass.

When installed, the reed switch can be used to switch 12/24 VDC or 240 VAC. Controllers can be simple on/off or have fade-in/fade-out, plus there are options to automatically turn off the lights should a door be left open or dim the light if it is too bright.

Up to four reed switches can be plugged into a single controller with a 6 port expansion dongle available to have up to nine doors controlling a single light.

Ideal for retrofitting, the kit is supplied with a choice of magnets, allowing selection to suit the preferred installation method and working gap.

Choice Of Magnet

A reed switch is activated when magnetic flux passes along its length. The shape and pole orientation of the magnet determine how well this occurs. Use the guide below to select the most suitable magnet for your installation:

• Cylindrical without flange – Ø9.5 × 30 mm, poles on the ends, marked LD1400
  Standard type, fits most concealed joinery applications.

• Cylindrical with flange – main body Ø9.5 × 30 mm, flange Ø11 mm, poles on the ends, marked LD1401
  Same as above but easier to secure with the flange.

• Cylindrical × 2 – two raw magnets without enclosure, Ø8 × 10 mm each, poles on the ends
  Flexible option for narrow doors.

• Dome – Ø16 × 6 mm, colours: white, black, light brown, dark brown, light grey, dark grey, poles on the face
  Surface-mount style, colour-matched for visible locations.

• Cuboid – 28 × 15 × 6 mm, colours: white, black, light brown, dark brown, with either end poles or face poles
  Larger surface-mount option, choice of pole orientation for different switch alignments.
